The Art of House Hunting: Don’t Short Change Yourself!

by Barbara Gressens, Broker/Owner

For helpful real estate services, there is more to house hunting than having the front door flung open and someone doing their best impersonation of Vanna White. Anyone can be a taxi driver to various houses and unlock a door. While buyers want services that provide them with uncompromised advice and information, buyers sometimes create a less than satisfactory situation by not planning ahead or doing their homework.

A real estate agent, especially an exclusive buyer agent, will take the time to understand who you are, what your home buying goals are and what your lifestyle needs are so that he or she can be your consultant and advisor to finding the right home. That means that buyers need to plan ahead of time. Don’t show up in a new city and call to see if an agent can show you homes that afternoon and expect to see your dream home. Don’t call the number on the sign in the yard and expect to speak with someone who has not pledged to get the very best deal for the seller. You get out of the process what you put into it.

At Buyers Advantage Group, we believe that we need to know our clients, their families, their goals and their dreams.  we ask probing questions that have our clients think in directions which they may have not previously considered as being important in buying a home.  When you first call or visit with us, we will ask you a series of interview questions that allow us to qualify your specific home buying goals to help match you with the best agent.  We will then spend more time in shedding some light about the agent and our agency as well as having the right expectations.  This will help the buyer know what the next step throughout the home buying process will be.  The buyer should never be in the dark.

A buyer needs to have confidence that the agent they will be working with has the knowledge, the experience and the skills to make their objectives come true.  An agent needs to know that their client can confide in them with their housing, financial and time table goals. Without full disclosure from both sides, all objectives cannot be met.

Do not short-change your buying experience.  You need to know who you are working with and have the confidence in the advice you are getting about the home you are about to purchase.  Buying a home is one of the largest purchases you will make this year.  You should be as happy in your next home in five, ten or twenty years as you were when you first walked through the home’s front door.  Call Buyers Advantage Group Realty if you are looking for an agency who will be the Buyer’s best advocate.  As exclusive buyer agents, we are only working for the buyer and the buyer’s best interests.  Therefore, we never have to compromise our services because we only have one gaol: the buyer’s goal.

Call Kathryn, our Client Coordinator, to get started planning for your next home purchase in the Triangle Area.  And remember, don’t short change yourself!

  1. Living in a relocation area brings us a lot of buyers like you describe. While it’s great to have volume, it is much more work dealing with buyers who haven’t done any upfront work.
